Drawing Hands and Position As No-Limit Hold 'Em Strategies

It is best to have an aggressive approach in the play of drawing heads-up situations, whereas, it is best to have an understanding of how position influences optimal strategy while playing drawing hands in multi-way pots.

As a general rule, in playing against three opponents, it's usually correct to begin aggressively. One of the exceptions to this rule is that if one is second on turn and the pre-flop raiser has position on one. Also, if the first player bets and all you have is a draw, it's best to proceed cautiously until you know how the pre-flop raiser acts. Although, if you are in a pot against more than three players, your position - relative to both the pre-flop raiser and the post-flop bettor is a very important factor to consider before developing a strategy for the hand.

There important positional factors to keep in mind before choosing a particular action upon flopping a draw. Successful players automatically think of factors such as, who is the pre-flop raiser and (in relation to you) where is most likely for the post-flop to come from, If this player has position on you, keep track of players between you and him and are those players straightforward or tricky, and how many will act after you. More importantly, what kind of strategy one would obtain upon analyzing the above information gathered.

When (on the flop) with the drawing hand, one would prefer ideally one of the two outcomes, either one is able to successfully steal the pot or one gets the right chances (pot and/or implied) to try and make a hand. Both outcomes are relevant.
